I guess the saying - got ants in your pants - takes on serious new meanings.

Quail nest on the ground and the ants are attacking the chicks as they hatch, and killing them.

Default Fireants

I was bit by fireants when I lived there...(that was about 4 years ago now.) I still have the scars..and ever since then I've just not felt the same.

Doctor told me to be careful that getting bit twice would not be good.

Thus we are no longer living in Florida!

Sorry to hear about your terrible experience with fire ants. People often do not realize how dangerous these creatures really are, and if you are allergic they can even be fatal. I am glad you were able to get out of Florida and to a place without fire ants.

Fire ants aren't native to Florida and have been spreading thru the country for decades.
My guess is that unless you have an annual hard deep freeze they may be coming to a town near you.

If you prefer the more natural approach, try 20 Mule Team Borax laundry soap with sugar. They go for the sugar and bring it back to queen so whole colony is gone before you know it. Also good on other bugs as well like silver fish, carpenter ants etc.
