You might want to take another look at Mobile Home Parks. There are many in the Sarasota area that are truly nice--as good or better than stick built houses. Costs/fees vary greatly. For my money a ''Resident Owned'' park is the way to go. It costs more upfront because you own the land underneath your home but your monthly fees are WAY less--some under $100/mo.

I see this post was in 2006 so don't know if you can help us. We live in Venice but want to relocate to Sarasota. If you know of a good landlord we will greatly appreciate your forwarding the info. My email: smpoort@yahoo.com
A 55+ comm. or a single family home would be great. we are in our 60's, non-smokers, no pets, church going couple. We are on a fixed income and 1/2 of our finances are used for meds. due to a HEART transplant. The anti-rejection meds are truly expensive. We've gone thru all our savings, and even asked the bank for a foreclosure. But, I still have him with me and the home etc. are material things. The transplant will be 7 yrs. in Mar. and per USF (Shands Hospital) are thrilled with him as he is doing wonderful. He told his Dr. he would be the best patient he ever had. They are really proud of him!
Thanking You ahead for any and all the help you can give us.
Sincerely, Sandy

Sandy,

I know exactly what you're saying about the heart transplant drugs as my father had one at Tampa General roughly 10 years ago. Modern medicine is truly amazing.

You might want to try looking here: www.MyFloridaHomesMLS.com or possibly stingermanagement.com. Coldwell Banker sometimes has a few things worth looking at. You could also try craigslist.org but be very careful as some of the people advertising on there are in foreclosure or they're just outright scams. I have written a blog on this website on how to double check rentals to verify they don't have any foreclosure papers filed against them.

Good luck with it!
