We plan on moving to the Sarasota area from Minnesota. My husband is career Warehouse Manager. I really don't want to move until he has a job BUT I feel you need to live in the area to receive any offers. At least that was our experience 10 years ago when we moved to Orlando. We just bought a house and went from there. Now we are older and more cautious...don't want to take that kind of risk. Anyone have any suggestions? (BTW-we moved back to MN cause of family but now we are ready to move and stay in FL for good!)

Oh boy this is a tough one. Truth is that employment in Florida is tough all the way around whether your here or not. Its not an employment haven unless your okay with a service type of job. Your right in that most employers seem to have a strong preference for locals because quite frankly they don't have to deal with the complexities of a relocating person and if the job pays well they can find someone local I have lived in Sarasota and its beautiful but no way I move there without a job. You have challenges to overcome, first is finding a job and second finding a job that pays you what you need. No easy task.

My 2 cents is find the job first and play it safe unless you have a nest egg big enough to cover your for at least six or so months. If you were moving to NY/NJ, LA, etc then perhaps its not as big a deal.

The phrase "employers love to pay people with sunshine" applies.

Check also the Fed-ex & UPS web-sites they have jobs within your field.
