Does anyone know of any social groups for adults wtih Asperger's Syndrome? There seems to be so many resources for children, but not adults. We have a great son who would like to meet people like himself.

There are some adult meet up groups listed on this website, although none really close. If you called one of these groups they might know where a local group meets:
Find a Meetup Group Near You! - Asperger's Syndrome Meetups - Tampa

Here's another website. If you call the Sarasota group they might know an adult group:

Good luck!

I have an adult son in the Hickory, NC area who has Asperger's and wants to meet others with Asperger's. Does anyone know of any Asperger's coach in the Western Carolina area?

Hi Maureen,
My husband and I are trying to move down to Sw Fl, but no luck with the selling of our home yet. We have just lowered the price significantly so I expect to see more action. We have a 22 year old son who has Asperger's syndrome, very high functioning, but always the awkwardness in social situations. He will be a senior in college this September, but he will be coming down with us when we move and living with us when not in school. We were very lucky with the school system here in RI as he got the much needed help from specialists he needed from a very early age so he is pretty much self sufficient, but ocassionally needs help from us in many different ways. If we are lucky enough to move down we will definitely try to get the guys to meet. It might help both of them, plus these kids often times don't like to discuss their disability to other people, but if they share the same problems they might be a source of support to each other. Good luck...
Patty

Here are some ideas for meet ups in the North Carolina area:
Find a Meetup Group Near You! - Asperger's Syndrome Meetups - Charlotte

Resources -- The Asperger's Syndrome Institute (http://www.asperger-institute.com/resources.htm - broken link)

Unfortunately, many of the groups or meet ups are for kids and not adults. I think there is definitely a need for a meet up group of adults with Asperger's. Maybe you could look into starting one and contacting some of the other groups in town with the kids with Asperger's. I bet it would catch on in no time. My brother also has Asperger's as well.
