hey beachbum!
You can swim now. I see people doing it every weekend. Not today though - it only reached 65. Yesterday it was 82, and people were swimming. You won't have any problem swimming at Easter time!

Most people want the water temps to reach 80 before venturing into the gulf for a swim. I'm still tracking water temps in the mid-60's. You won't see water temps reaching 80 and above till June.
We should start seeing afternoon highs in the 80's and water temp in the 70's soon. Easter should be great beach weather, but the water temps will be a little cool.

Thanks guys for the info! I thought of it today because we had the annual Polar Bear swim in Lake Ontario near my house here. The water temp was a tepid 34degrees with air temps of around 20. I have never had even the slightest urge to join in the festivities in my 50 years of living here!

I'll gladly trade our 48-53 degree water temps for your 65-72 water temps any day of the year,,

It's all relative. When I first moved here, I was able to play in the Gulf of Mexico in March. I specifically remember it was March because it was my birthday. Now I need to wait until May or June. The longer I live in Florida, the harder it us for me to tolerate cold temperatures. Here is a chart of the average water temperature.

In the mid atlantic the beach and surf is full of swimmers when the water temperature is in the 70s! Heck in WNY the fingerlakes barely if ever made it above 60 degrees, and then only the top 4 inches or so. We still swam all the time!

Big Jim and the twins would usually hide though. LOL

I remember skiing in Vermont when the temperature was in the single digits. I guess I've become a wimp.
