Hi everyone. I'm new to this so be gentle. I am considering transferring my job to one of our properties in Sarasota from New Hampshire. My husband and I lived in Lake Mary, FL for 4 years and absolutely loved it. We miss Florida and want to move back. We are looking for a 3-4 bedroom House to rent in the range of $850-$1100 per month.
It must be safe (as possible) and family friendly as we have 3 children under the age of 5 . Our son will be attending school this fall. I'm hoping to keep my commute under 40 minutes each way. Can you suggest a particular town/area that might be a perfect match for us? We are considering North Port but are keeping all options open.

It sounds like North Port would be a good fit for your budget but your commute is probably not going to be under 40, more like at or above. You should post more specifics about what you want out of schools and a community so we can help you.

If you are looking in Sarasota I would look in the Gulf Gate area. Close to everything including beaches, good schools, safe, all around great area. Everywhere in the Sarasota is going to have cheap rent for now because so many people have left the area and there are so many vacancies. I live in Venice and I have seen nice homes on Venice Island renting for $700/month. I remember when we were moving from Sarasota to Venice around 4 years ago rentals were impossible to find now they're everywhere. Good luck!

I don't think you will find anything 3-4 bedroom in Gulf Gate below a grand, even right now. You could possibly find a three bedroom for around 1100 but it probably wouldn't be in as good as shape as a much newer house you could rent in NP for less.

what about Venice--I know most people knock it because it is not "child friendly" since so many residents are retired/seniors but it is very safe and closer to Sarasota than NP

I think North Port as well or possibly somewhere in Venice. If you hop on I-75 from North Port, Sarasota is a pretty short commute.

CK into lakewood ranch in sarasota...might be more than 1g a month, but a really nice family friendly place to live..safe too!

I would stick to Sarasota County cities, I wouldn't venture out into Manatee or Charlotte Counties to be honest, especially if your job is in Sarasota. I would recommend Sarasota, however if you want a smaller city, then check into Venice. North Port is a "newer" city than Venice or Sarasota, and has a lot of younger people in it from what I understand. I believe crime is low in North Port, as it is in most Sarasota County cities. I would recommend against looking at Lakewood Ranch though. It is too $$$$$$$$. The people aren't that friendly either. Stick to Sarasota County. Good Luck!!
