Hi All.

I am considering moving to the gulf coast of FL this summer. I was wondering if some locals could shed some light on the areas I am considering, or recommend an area.

I have a son who will be entering middle school, and would like to be fairly close to the beach in a safe area, while being able to rent affordably and still have a decent job market. Does all of this exist anywhere or am I dreaming??? I was considering the Sarasota area.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks

The job market is pretty tough right now throughout most of Florida. What is your profession? When you say affordable rent-what is affordable? You could rent a newer home in North Port, 25 minutes from the beach for around $900.

Sarasota is a beautiful area, and depending on what "affordable" means to you, I think there are affordable places. HOWEVER, the job market here is one of the worst anywhere, but, of course it also depends what kind of job you need. Even the retail and hospitality jobs are lacking, which frankly makes up the bulk of jobs here. Lots of cuts on government and teaching jobs, many locals already fired or laid off. Just not a good time right now to be job hunting.

Good luck.
