Keeps the bugs out. And debris. Screen mesh rolled into the aluminum extrusion this keeps the Mosquitos out.

This is a pic of a screen enclosure we just finished in Englewood. Hope this helps.

Could anyone tell us what is the expected lifespan of the pool cage screening, barring damage? Is there UV protection built into the screening?

Standard fiberglass 18/14 screen mesh (Phifer name brand) with proper installation (having the screen tight when installed) should last any where from 8 to 10 yrs.

Yes, there is some UV protection

Kbuild, How often do people go with the finer mesh to keep out no-see-ums? Does it cost more? Is a cage with finer mesh more likely to be damaged by high winds?

Thanks so much! You've really helped! I'd also be interested to know if the finer mesh is the way to go?

I have a question. Is it humid and very warm inside a screened enclosure or can you get a breeze? Also, I assume that you don't need to heat a pool in Florida, right? So you save on electricity?

the 20/20 isn't a bad idea to use below the chair rail...
then use the 18/14 in the rest of the cage/enclosure...
there is a product out there called SuperScreen that they claim will last 20years, but its' not been around that long...
not a bad idea to look into it for the roof since that is in direct sunlight...
each one will have a different cost attached to it though...
