Florida1,
Thanks for the response, but we are not buying it solely for an investment. We are just trying to be realistic about the fact that-yes someday we may have to sell it and we don't want to lose money. We had the understanding that the canals (saltwater) went out to the Myakka River. Is that information wrong or is there something misleading about the canals? I have also found that some of the canals may be too shallow, but wev'e been asking before viewing the properties whether or not a large motorboat can be used.
Thanks again for your advice and if you have any input on the neighborhoods, please feel free to post. The posts have been very helpful on this sight.
God Bless and Keep Smilin-it will brighten your day & everyone elses too!
Holly

North Port is very far inland (comparatively speaking). Also, the Myakka River is pretty narrow and windy (sp?) and more popular for canoeing. I would look farther South closer to the Peace River and Charlotte Harbor. It is much wider and deeper and it also has access to the Gulf of Mexico.

Hello Aargh!
What to you or others reading this think of Heron Creek Golf Club area of North Port? We are looking to be close walking distance to Publix. Isn't a Super Target building soon near Publix also? We are seniors who are active.

I am not a "duffer" but my friends say that Heron Creek Golf course is Great! It is on Sumter Blvd not far from the Publix on Sumter and Price Blvd but definitely not walking distance in the heat. Housing in Heron Creek starts at about 400K and up.

The super Target is further EAst by about 5 miles but there is a HUGE shopping mall being built by Sembler group at Price and Sumter blvds'. It is not slated to open for another two years.

Feel free to PM if you want more info.

David, I did spend time this spring at Heron Creek and spoke with several people who live there. All were very positive about Heron Creek and North Port in general.
I'm not a golfer but did play some tennis there and the facilities are absolutely first rate.
The homes I went through were very nice, but as stated, prices are around 400k and up.
Hope that helps.
Mikey

New homes now available in Heron Creek are priced from $450k (2,550 SF) built by Lennar. They are introducing a smaller model right over $400k. Currently 6 specs are being built, ALL other Lennar owned specs were sold.

There are some new basically new homes available from $400k with Heron Creek, with swimming pools.

Just outside Heron Creek similar sized homes would be around $100k less but are not located within deed restricted areas.

Lot prices in Heron Creek for an approx. 10,000 SF to 11,000 SF parcel are $90k to $140k depending on location. Lot prices outside Heron Creek in those non-deeded area's (good locations) are in the mid $20k range. Heck you could have 40,000 SF (4 lots) for the price of one!

Yes, IMO you can walk to the Publix and Walgreens and the soon to be post office.

They have golf cart parking in the Publix parking lot. I think there is a back entrance from Heron Creek that their residents use to access the Publix shopping center.

Worthless without details.......

Please add something to the forum rather then just posting a blanket statement.
