Wow Maryann,
Where are you from?
Some people are like that, my youngest daughter is "uncoldable!" That is what she used to say when she was little. She would be out in the snow with out her boots on (they came off when she stepped in a snow bank), and she'd sit there and sculpt out things in the snow - without her gloves on. We'd try to get her to come in and warm-up, and she'd say "No, I'm uncoldable!" She is still like that. She goes to school in PA, and likes the colder weather.

We will be about a week behind you! But, that doesn't mean the beer won't be flowing! I'll be in Rhode Island for about a week, then I'm heading straight down! I think that October is going to be a wonderful time for a few parties! And there are lotsa great reasons to get together. For some reason, everytime I get together with a friend, or several, a party seems to break out, dunno why?

Good luck to you Maryann! It makes me wonder how some peoples hell are other's paradise. Since I lived in your neck of the woods up north for 43 years and you lived down south for most of your life I will give you my take on were you now live. You can count on winter weather anywhere from mid October to mid April. You live in the land of TAXES, yes worse than FL. Don't forget the state income tax yours is the 2nd highest in the country. You have the nations highest average electric cost and the cost to heat your home is in the thousands. The salt NY uses on the roadways will eat your automobile away and it will cut its life span in half. Yes you do have a change in seasons Winter and construction. Theirs nothing like setting next to your fire place or wood stove while you wait for your car to warm up so you can drive it. The fresh sub zero air as you scrape the latest snow from your car almost every day in the Winter you will certainly enjoy. You will have very good schools for your children no doubt about that. But then again you went to school in FL and your no dummy. High tech jobs are fleeing from upstate NY like cockroaches flee when you switch the light on. Heck NY is not alone in that respect now days. If I was looking for a place to raise a family Venice would not be my first choice either. To many older people like myself looking for their slice of Paradise by the sea.

Now BIGHOUSE! Crack me a beer it's 5:00 o'clock somewhere!

We just bought in Venice and the area we purchased in is full of kids. We have kids and they love it here so far, but then they loved it when we lived up North too.. Everyone has their own opinions and everyone has their own tastes.. What's right for someone isn't right for others.. I'll let you know how Venice works out for us after we've been here for a few years..

I grew up in Western New York, and you must be looking through a high powered microscope, because your description is right on! It is not all bad though. I love winter sports too, and sitting next to a hot fire after being out on the ice - fishing, sledding, skiing, or falling on your butt and sliding three feet from the car door can be quite enjoyable! The fall and all the tree colors is wonderful, and last about two weeks before the cold raw rain freezes you to the bone. Kidding - there are alots of wonderful fall / winter / spring things to enjoy, you just need to be tolarant of the cold!

Isn't it five o'clock as soon as the small hand on the clock passes noon?! Heck! In the winter time, I loved putting my six pack in a pile of snow to cool it down a bit, or cover it in snow to keep it from freezing.

BigHouse How correct you are, NY has many wonderful things in the winter. We loved to snowmobile on the Tughill Plateau and go over to Lake Ontario (Sandy Pond) for some Ice fishing. Skiing at Greek Peek and Song Mountain was grand. Fall was my favorite time of year with the colors and White tail deer hunting. Summer on Lake Ontario fishing for King Salmon was killer ..... not sure how they are running now days been awhile since I've done that with by brothers. The wine country around the finger lakes is great for week end trips to the wineries. Still get up their once in a while but I won't shovel snow any more....lol. We fell in love with Venice almost 20 years ago during a holiday visit with the in laws they are snow birds. We moved to SC during the late 90's for jobs as I worked at an IBM plant that employed 6000 plus people and it dwindled down to several hundred by that time we left. SC has been very good to us. Son graduated from Clemson Univ. Engineering. Daughter is a Math major with Secondary Education as a miner in short (Math teacher). She is a Senior this year. I don't know who is more excited her, her mother or I as we are planning on retiring to Venice next summer after she graduates. We have had a place down there for about 6 years and use it several weeks and a few weekends when we get a chance.
