I posted this on the Tampa forum as well but wanted the opinions of you guys, too. I just got back to Vegas after visiting the Tampa area. I really liked Sarasota and Dunedin. I understand they are two very different communities. I just want to be able to rent a nice place without killing myself financially, and I'd like to be close to places where I can do lots of theatre since that's my hobby and it's how I meet people and become part of the community. Any opinions?

It depends. Dunedin is a suburb of Tampa (please correct me if I'm wrong, someone) and Sarasota, well, Sarasot is queen of her own county.
SRQ (Sarasota) abounds with theatre opportunities (Asolo Rep. theatre, Golden Apple, Sarasota Players, Florida Studio), then there's Venice theatre to the south and Manatee to the north. The community is very well connected and a great way to make friends.

Dunedin is in Pinellas County and is near Clearwater. It is a small and quiet town. My sister lives there and likes it. Sarasota as so much like Ladywithafan said. It really does depend on what you want out of a town. For safety and crime rates, either one. If you want a small town, it's Dunedin. If you want live and fun, it's Sarasota. Good Luck!

Lady and Suncoast did a fabulous job of answering your questions! If it's theater you want then you be at home in Sarasota.
Lady could probably point you in the right direction for some reasonable rentals in the downtown area (that's where she lives). She usually knows the best deals out there! If you lived close to downtown you'd be right close to it all

This is not really a fair question. Dunedin is a quaint little town. What your seeking seems to scream Sarasota.

Since I didn't know either city it was a fair question. I'm not from there. And, yes, it sounds like Sarasota is right for me, although I still love Dunedin and am happy to visit there.

Yeah, and that is why she came on her and asked us because she didn't know. That is what this forum is for. This question was fair as she was deciding between the two, now that we know she wants more, we suggest Sarasota, and that is what she sounds like she is choosing.
