Hi! Are there any hostels in Sarasota? Or a place where someone could come to visit Sarasota for a week on a shoestring budget? I looked at the rooms for rent on Craigslist and this is not good for a 1-week stay because most of the rooms/roommate ads on Craigslist want a committment of longer than just 1 week. I\'ve seen some motels on N. Tamiami Trail with signs outside offering rooms for $189/week (or there-abouts.) Is this probably about the best kind of budget deal available for a 1-week stay?

I agree with PTB on this one. You might want to Google what ever hotel you are looking up to make sure it's OK. There are some seedy areas on the trail between Fruitville Rd and the airport.

There are only a few of those motels on the north Trail to stay away from, and overall the north trail is not that bad - most of it is pretty nice, actually, IMO. The ones to stay away from are probably the ones you have seen offering the "weekly" rates.
