Hello to all you helpful folks. I just found out I may be able to retire in 3 months and move from Mi to the Sarasota area. I am not yet 50 and I need to get a full or part time job in the $9-10 dollar an hour range. I like people and have experience in customer service. I don't really want to work outside to much . Any suggestions for the Sarasota area? Thanks

Default enjoy your retirement

If you're planning on retiring but need a $9 an hour job you're not ready for retirement.

I would suggest starting to apply with the larger employers now - if you have a local address that will help greatly (or local number /can use cellphone number). The better employers will take a while even for the positions you are interested in. You have likely developed good CS skills and a good work ethic - it will serve you well.

Thank-you Still the Same. Photo man 6, if I don't retire my benefits will worsen and my wages will barely increase over the next 3 years. It's a contract thing.

You might want to try just going up and down the trail and hitting several businesses-CVS, Walgreens, Publix, Walmart, etc. You might get lucky and hit on something. Or try going to their websites and looking to see if they are in need of anyone down here.

I would try Publix. They are always expanding and treat their employees pretty well. The employment situation here is extremely tough, and I can't emphasize that enough. This is a resort/retirement/vacation area for the most part, and what few jobs there are will be in hospitality and retail for which there is a ton of competition.

You might also try Home Depot, it seems most of their helpers are middle age or young seniors.

Good luck!

Does someone at age 50 wanting to be stocking shelves with kids less than half their age? Not trying to be mean but lets face it once you get to a certain age even if you're in fairly good shape there are things you just don't have the stamina for.

Maybe you could be a subsitute teacher? As hard as is it to believe FL requires no college degree for subs. And the pay is in the range you're looking for.
