Does anyone know if you can drill through a lanai frame to hang plants or will it weaken the frame(s)?

I used to have hooks and hanging baskets on all the posts on my lanai at my old house. The small holes drilled for the stainless steal screws will have no effect. I even had irrigation tubeing running up inside the posts.

Would an insurance company have a different opinion in the event of a claim? Maybe? I don't know.

We did had a problem with dirt running out during the rainy season and dead leaves falling into the pool, but I'd do it again given the chance.

I hang plants from brackets that I have screwed into the aluminum 2/4, I don't believe that the post is worse for wear. I'm not drilling through the post, I'm just using painted sheet metal screws.

Thank you Tommy. Like you, I think I'll take my chances if and when a claim is necessary.

Hey FLBob, thanks for the info and photo. Hanging plants inside our lanai is beginning to look like an 'okay' thing to do.
