I know results will vary from person to person but...

I am relocating to SWFL from GA in the near future and I'm a runner with "sports-induced" asthma. While visiting SoFL over the years I've noticed my asthma to be very muted while running there.

Could be coincidence, but curious if other runners who have moved south have noted sports asthma to be better or worse in SoFL?

I moved from Chicago with SEVERE asthma.. had to be hospitalized a few times a year and depended heavily on albuterol and a steriod inhaler.. I moved here three years ago, I have not ONCE had a prescription filled.. I have had a few mild occasions of difficulty breathing. My life has changed. Despite what I though, that the humidity would increase my problems.. I have had improved breathing. Not quite sure what the reasoning is.. but Im thrilled!

Oobie
The answer is humidity and plenty of trees creating oxygen

What is used to generate power in the SW Florida area? Nuclear? Coal? Where are they located?

FPL has mostly gas / oil plants, but they do have a couple of nuclear and coal plants.

FPL Group - About Us

TECO serves the Tampa area, and has a mix of stations as well.

TECO Energy - Power Station Information

Progress Energy covers parts of the area as well, and has mixed plants.

I don't have asthma, but most of my life I've suffered from allergies. once I moved to SW Florida my allergies just disappeared, probably because the weeds and grasses that I developed allergies to don't live here.
I also believe that the smog brought by modern life is much reduced in the area I live. So I think that the relatively cleaner moist air just makes it easier to breath.

Dreamy46 - FPL has two nuclear plants - St Lucie and Ft Pierce
Most of the rest are oil/gas

Here's a link to FPL coverage map and plant location (http://www.fpl.com/about/profile/fpl_facts.shtml - broken link)

TECO supplies energy north of Sarasota
Here's a link to TECO plant info

oops looks like I was a bit late Skunk Workz beat me to it.

The coal plant that they have on Tampa Bay appears to be a bit dirty.

Excellent links you two. Thank you.

I hate coal plants and they are no friend to people with respiratory ailments.
