I'm looking now at all options on moving down to the Venice, North Port area. Originally we were looking at just buying a home and now we are looking at the possibility of buying a lot now, and have our home custom built.

Can some of you folks recommend some reputable home builders.

Thanks!

i believe the genral consensus is that you would be paying far more at present to have a home built than what you could buy for. I have seen figures of around $100 a square foot quoted for new custom construction PLUS lot. so for 2000 sq feet you are looking at $200000. depending on the area you can pick up a brand new home for down to 50% of that.
a quick search on the MLS shows 7 homes 1500+ sq ft between $69 and $139k in North Port and 12 in Rotonda

It is prudent to weigh and research both prospects, existing homes vs. lot built home.

Crunch the numbers, compare both options throughly and make an informed decision based on your own individual situation.

I read in another thread that Mercedes Homes are good builders, maybe some Florida locals can chime in with other reputable builders in the area.

the home we bought worked out at least $60000 cheaper than building + we got the lot thrown in !!!

I seem to recall Mercedes being given a good report.

if you are looking high end big dollar stuff MarK Tarantino at PCI homes does great things

Many of the local builders have gone out of business due to lack of building. Like was previously mentioned, I'm not sure that you could actually build a home for what you could buy one for. Especially looking at the impact fees in North Port and Venice.

Mark with PCI does have a good reputation. A few others are Tim Towles, Fero Construction, John Cannon, Lee Weatherington, Arthur Rutenburg, Tenbusch and Masterpiece. You can Google each and find their websites.
