Hey peeps. I need a location for local grafitti.I want to do some photography of local street art but we dont exactly have a large collection here in Venice. Any ideas or locations you know of would be fantastic. Buildings, sidewalks, bridges, trains.... I dont care what it is, there has to be some around Sarasota/Bradenton. Thanks in advance.

The lack of any significant amount of graffiti is truly one of the things I like about the area here. Punta Gorda has some nicely done murals downtown, but that's not what your after, right?

Go to any city that has competing gangs looking to control an area.

Graffiti is awesome, you don't need to hide your emotions from all these grumpy people... If you want to see some graff, come to NYC, home of graffiti... 5 pointz in queens and harlems wall of fame for the more artistic pieces, and brooklyn, and southbronx streets for the good old gritty nyc style fills and tags... You want some graff supplies or maybe some artwork from famous graff writers? Visit "Scrapyard" store in canal next to the dunkin donuts...

5 pointz:

Wall of fame:

Gritty NYC streets:

Locally, check around Ringling College on the North Trail. I remember seeing some on the gas station that the college bought some time ago. The area to the east of the college is not a particularly good part of town, so check in there as well.

Hey Old Man Winter,

Here in Punta Gorda they have a lot of historical street murals on the sides and ends of buildings. Very tastefully done. Some are of some of the founders of the town, and other historical scenes from Punta Gorda. They even have a map, and a walking tour of them which you can do. Some friends of mine that came down to visit, took the tour and thought it was a wonderful way to present our town. I know they have added a few since the original tour guide was prepared. I think there are like 20 something around town.

I think they look great. A friend of mine that lives in New England, is discussing commissioning someone to do something similar for their town. Its unique and ingenious!
