America's Top Places For Boomers To Retire - Yahoo! Real Estate

Sarasota, Florida
Sarasota is perhaps one of the most popular retirement destinations in the most popular US state for retirees. Located on the Gulf Coast, Sarasota has 35 miles of beaches and offers residents opportunities from golfing to boating and gourmet dining. The town also offers a range of activities, including an opera, symphony, film society and a range of art galleries.
One caveat about this destination is that because of its climate and natural surroundings, it attracts plenty of vacationers in the winter months. The area also finds median home values at $185,200, which is slightly above the national average. Regardless, AARP Magazine has identified Sarasota, a city with the nickname "Paradise," as #4 on its list of "best places to reinvent your life.”

Most of the homes in the Gulf Gate area were built in the 60's & 70's. They are usually ranch homes around 1500 sq ft or so. It is very close to the south bridge leading over to Siesta Key and pretty close to the mall as well. Gulf Gate is a deed restricted community. Gulf Gate Golf Club is a big draw to the area as well. I think the prices have come down a lot in that community and the location is good in reference to convenience things.

I guess it wouldn't matter to retirees, but they sure got the unemployment rate wrong. Makes me question the rest of Sperling's figures. Future job growth 25.7% ???

Default amazing

isn't it amazing how these lists can change from one year to the next. How can cities considered top to live in one year can drop off the list the next. The turnover is amazing.

I guess you have to read the articles to see why the place made the list in the first place. Texas seems to show up a lot.

I don't really think people have too much faith in these lists anyway.

These lists are for entertainment purposes at best.

The only one who can decide what is a "best place" for me is me!
