Hey everyone... We are looking for a vacation place and have decided on this area. We've heard great things about Sarasota, but we're wondering about Bradenton and venice also? Basically, we're looking for a great beach and safe neighbourhoods. Preferably spending no more than 130-150 k for at least 2 bedrooms. Btw, we're Canadians and not well acquainted with the area. We've just started our search and want to be as informed as possible before making a trip over there. Any suggestions would be much appreciated! Thanks

Well, in the areas that you mentioned 130K-150K would get you an older, smaller home. You might be able to get something in south Venice in that range. It would probably be built in the 1980's.

Another option would be North Port. It's about 30 minutes from the beach. You could get a pretty nice, newer home in the NP area for that price. We have many Canadian buyers in NP right now.

Sorry... Should have mentionned that we're looking for a condo rather than a house ... Does that change things?

You can get an older condo for that price. North Port is not known as being near to the beach!P

Peter, I stated in my post that North Port is 30 minutes from the beach. Often times when people see what they can get at that price in other areas, it's a good trade off.

Yes, buying a condo makes a big difference. Bird Bay in Venice might be a good place to start. Right over the bridge is Venice beach.

Thanks for the feedback. I will look into bird bay! North port seems nice, from the research I've done, but we're looking for something closer to the beach. What about Naples ? Any ideas would help! Thanks

I think Naples would be way over your budget.

The drive from North Port to several beautiful beaches on Manasota Key is an easy one. Here's some information: Manasota Key Florida Beaches We get there in 20 minutes to half a hour. Only serious traffic is down in Venice. Wouldn't want to live with that day in and day out.

I'd rather live in a beautiful North Port neighborhood than in the older communities closer to the water. Here many of the homes are very new by any standard, and priced much lower.

I don't know anything about Bradenton. Before we bought, we looked in both Sarasota and Venice. You may be able to get something on Venice Island in that price range. I would think that's about it in that price range as far as walking to the beach. We spent 18 months looking for our condo. University Park area is in Bradenton, try areas like San Michelle, Carolina Landings and Sabal Bay. These are condo/townhome subdivisions. Two of them are gated and you should be able to find plentiful options within your price range. They are about 20 minutes from Siesta Key, and Lido beaches in Bradenton. They are very close to many amenties along University parkway. They area also close to I75 access and just a skip away from Lakewood Ranch fun. The area is VERY beautiful and has a strong suburban feel IMO. My sister lives in this area, and we looked also (residential homes were a bit out of our price range) As far as the beach distance, you may have trouble finding anything closer in that price range : )
