i have a home in north port but am tying up loose ends here in texAss before i move down there. however, i'd like to get florida tags on my car because it doesn't make sense renewing them in texas since i will be gone shortly. i went to the sarasota tax website but it wasn't helpful. how do i get NEW florida plates for my car which is currently registered in texAss?

Official Website Florida Department of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles

Florida DMV title & tags info page. Need to establish residency, employment, or child dependency to do so...so if you already have the home, send utility bills there. Do you own the vehicle free & clear or is a lien involved? If you own it and titles are in hand, you surrender them at a DMV in FL, will receive the tags that day (assuming you don't want vanity plates) and titles will be mailed to you. Liens are only slightly more complicated. Most of the other items are on the site there. Typically people register, get tags and titles all at once, and I'm pretty sure it's not really possible to do it any other way.

HTH

Didn't realize that, but after reading further on the site its accurate. Apparently your reg is up annually on your birthday in Florida (unlike any state I've lived in) so it's up to you whether you'd want to try to skate till then! Every state's got its quirks, but at least it's not Illinois, where if you get a moving violation (ie: speeding ticket) they confiscate your drivers license and only mail it back once the ticket's paid. Found that one out the hard way..

Ohio has the vehicle registration due annually on your birthday too, so that won't be much of a change for us.

I'll have to see how it works out with the only car I have registered in my name, as I wouldn't have had to renew it here until 12/5/2048! All our modern cars are in my wife's name and due on her birthday.

Anyone on here familar with Florida historic plates; are they fifty (50) year renewal like Louisiana and Ohio? I did see that Florida allows YOM (year of manufacture) plates, and I just scored one off Ebay for Manatee County ("15") no less.

As cool as this is, I mean it even matches the body color, I'm looking forward to swapping it out for the Florida version!

Oooh, be careful what you ask for, as there's over 1000+ in this album alone: Gallery :: Healey at home (http://www.rfdm.com/gallery/album44 - broken link)

When you get bored with those, the remainder of the gallery has another 14,000+ pictures in it. www.rfdm.com/gallery (http://www.rfdm.com/gallery - broken link)

In the meantime, these were taken just minutes prior to a recent snowstorm (about 9").
