I just recently graduated college and my first job 10 months out went to crap b/c of the economy. I really wanted to stay in FL, mainly Orlando where I live now, but I found a job in Bradenton right off of I-75 by lakewood ranch. I am probably going to end up moving, but I would like some advice as to where. I am 24, single and not ready to give up the party scene yet. I heard that there are alot of older people that move down there to retire, and I am looking for a much younger crowd since I am coming from a big city. I also heard that St. Pete might be a good place to look. I am questioning downtown sarasota as well. I am basically looking for a place to live that I can meet people my age, and party with people my age, and live around people my age. Any advice out there for me ?

Sarasota is the place to be, since you have a job in Lakewood Ranch why move? There are tons of things to do in Sarasota, Siesta Key bars offers a lot of night life for someone your age (Beach Club, Gilligans, Sietsta Key Oyster Bar etc), that's where most of the people your age are on the weekends. Or there is also Urban Flats that has Live entertainment right in Lakewood Ranch. Either that or downtown Sarasota at places like Evies or Horsefeathers. Plus, you are close to the beach! Keep in mind, you can also head to Tampa on occasion. I have a lot of friends your age that hit these parts of town, they live in Sarasota and don't have the need to head to Tampa that often. Sarasota is alot of older people, but you'll find there are a lot your age also. Trust me, Siesta Key or "the key" is the place to be. Check out the University Park area for some apartments or even downtown sarasota. Everyone likes a change of scenery once in a while : ) Hope this helps, good luck with your new job. You're pretty fortunate to have landed a job!

Thanks for the info.. I would be moving from Orlando which is 2 hours away. I haven't accepted the job yet, but it is looking likely that I will. I have read alot of posts about Sarasota being an older crowd and it is good to hear from somebody younger about where the actual hangout spots are. I love seafood esp. oysters, so that was a plus hearing about the oar bar being a younger crowd...

TAKE THE JOB.. Most of the places I have mentioned also have live entertainment, and their is also a Sarasota Youth athletic club that a few of my friends belong to. You have to deal with the snowbirds no matter where you go in Florida so get used to it .. as long as you know where the young people go you'll be fine. Sarasota can be a really fun place, and it's a nice beach atmosphere too..plus, unlike St Pete, most of it is safe
