Instead of traveling East to 95,
This time we are thinking about coming down around Atlanta and then I 75 straight in.

Comments, suggestions, and verb alabuse gladly appreciated.

I haven't traveled on 95 in many years, and I've never made the trip from Pittsburg, but I came down 85 and 75 from Greenville SC last week so I can at least offer my view of that part of the trip.

I'm not sure if you are considering Charlotte or Knoxville; 85 is two lane, and was pretty smooth but I'm not sure what it's like between Charlotte and Greenville. We take the 285 / 675 loop around Atlanta, and it's always got a lot of traffic, but it's steady going. we hit south Atlanta at about 2pm on Thursday and the only time traffic got bad was where 675 merged into 75; we came to a complete stop, but it picked back up pretty quickly. You can bypass Macon via 475. The only other issue in GA was some construction south of Macon where traffic was down to two lanes for about 20 miles, but traffic was smooth and we maintained whatever the construction speed limit was (55 or 60 IIRC).

75 is 3 lanes from Atlanta until you hit the FL turnpike south of Ocala, and the only traffic we really hit in FL was around Gainsville, but of course all of this will depend on what time of day it is. On our way out Friday before last we hit Gainsville at 5 and spent an extra hour and a half sitting in traffic.

We managed to make it from Atlanta to Bradenton in about 8 hours including stopping for gas, a quick dinner at Wendy's, and one stop at a rest area.

Hope that at least helps compare that leg of the trip.

Thanks,
That was exactly what I was looking for.
Like I said, we have never come that way, but this time we'll give it a try.
