We live in Lakewood Ranch and are looking for a reliable contractor who is licensed and insured. We just purchased a new home and would like to add some closets to a couple of existing rooms, etc.

Any references would be much appreciated!

My hubby is a carpenter by trade and a contractor for Manatee County school district. He does residential/commercial interior remodeling in Bradenton and Sarasota. He isn't licensed or insured yet in Florida but was in Chicago via the Carpenters union. DM me if you'd like his number..He gives free estimates and works pretty reasonable..

Have you tried Angie's List? I'm not sure if they have it in Florida, but I use it here and it's been a godsend.

Just an fyi you don't need a licensed contractor to add closets to a room. As long as there is no alterations to the existing load bearing walls or structure.
Contact your local building dept. but remember, careful what can of worms you open with them. Could get very expensive.

FYI, you need a permit to add any interior walls. I am a licensed General, make sure you get someone who is licensed and insured. Good Luck
