Lots of good info already offered on this thread. Having been friends with the Sunshine's for sometimes now, I would suggest chatting with them about Visa's. They have certainly gone through a lot of ups and downs in the last few years and I'm sure they can offer some valuable advice and prevent you from wasting time going down the wrong path.

Good luck with your search

We are on the water and pay $975/mo for mortgage (taxes & insurances included). Electric ranges anywhere from $50-200/mo depending on AC usage. Water is roughly $60/month. Vehicles are paid off, but insurance for two vehicles is $110/mo. Gas is $2.60/gallon right now. Family of three, groceries run us about $400/mo. Cable TV and internet is $60/mo. Cell phones (family plan) are $100/mo.

Hey there, regarding the auto cover, it is very different in the US compared to UK. Rates are typically higher and less liability compared to what you get in the UK. The average liability to others (bodily injury) carried by most is $100k per person/$300k per accident. (many carry $250k/500k) and then there is always excess liability (umbrella insurance coverage begins at $1m)
You are correct on starting new in the US, when rating auto insurance the question asked is "what age 1st licensed in the US or Canada".
On the homes side newer will be less expensive to insure (2002 or newer).
Hope this helps you a bit.
PS. Not sure how old your children are but youthful operators (young drivers) are costly to insure.
Good luck to you.
