The assessed value is $664000, and the property taxes were $11000. last year. A budget choker, but since they had no mortgage payment, that's less than a $1000 a month. Let's see them find a house for their family for less than that.

Anyway, it is, for sure, a very ugly house, so hopefully the new owners will paint it ASAP.

They'll move out into Effingham and pay cash for a house about $200 a month in taxes and a $100 in insurance...

Sounds like a plan. At least this family had the good common sense to sell the house and get out from under the tax burden before it was sold on the courthouse steps, like so many families who were featured on that show. It really was a major scam.

The house hasn't been sold yet.

Any bets on how long it will take and how much they'll get?

They won't get what they are asking, $524,000. I loved how the listing agent tried to boast on the news tonight how "what little girl wouldn't want to live in a fairy princess room with touret balcony" since the REAL little girl was terrified of the room and refused to sleep in it.

The decor is beyond hideous. The house itself, isn't so bad if you discount the paint color. If someone can buy it for the upper 300's and put 75 -100k into repairs and remodeling, they might have a good investment. But, being on a busy street like that isn't very appealing, so it will never be worth what people think it is. It would make a good sorority house for SCAD ou SSU, perhaps.

Those poor folks will do well to find something they can afford in this area. Effingham or Poolaire might be their best bet, for sure. Based on their previous decisions, they'll blow through the money from the sale and be back in the paper for bankruptcy or something even worse, in two years or less.
