This year its on a Thursday the 17th.If I wanted hang out and party with the crowds would I come the weekend before the 17th or the weekend after? Its been a while for me and I have about 4 international college age friends that are here in Atlanta or a brief period and they are very interested in going and experiencing the "Mardi Gras-like" aspect of it.

We were thinking to come this weekend is that correct?

Hard to tell. With the parade being midweek it's really a toss up. Best bet is to skip school and come down for the parade.

The real party begins with the parade on the 17th and will continue through Saturday/Sunday (March 19th/20th)

River Street and City Market are the main destinations for the after parade, 'Mardi Gras-like' festivities. The City's website states "River Street and its ramps will close at 4 p.m. on Wednesday (3/16) and remain closed until 4 p.m. Sunday. Highlighted streets surrounding Ellis Square and City Market will be closed 4 p.m. until 4 a.m. each evening starting Wednesday, March 16 thru Saturday, March 19."

However, many other events are the weekend before the holiday including the Greening of the Fountain, Tara Feis, Tybee Island St. Pat's Parade, Rugby Tournament, etc.

If you're coming down just to party, then definiteky the weekend after. Fri-Sat 18th-19th should be huge if the weather holds.
