I was downtown late this afternoon and the streets were already jammed, traffic was horrific, people were toting cases of beer into their hotels. It's gonna be a HUGE St. Patrick's week guys. Sunny and in the 70s right on through the duration! Let's pray everybody plays safe and there's no big trouble.

Amen to that. Gramps and I have our perfect little plan for parking, parade, lunch, and back to the relative calm of Pooler. I'm glad we aren't trapped downtown and can escape when we feel like it.
I hope all the merchants have a gangbuster week.

MAN OH MAN FOLKS! Downtown was ROCKIN' this afternoon, not with the kind of out-of-control drunken revelry type crowds but instead jam-packed with families and kids of every age, stripe and color. The kind of feel-good tourist crowds that make you SO proud to live in Savannah!!!

Friday afternoon was a nightmare with some charity road race going down Bull St. and blocking all east west traffic downtown. Why on earth would someone schedule something like that on the weekend before St. Pat's?

In general, though, I love the energy that surrounds the holiday, too. It makes the city seem so full of life and excitement.

The Tara Feis on Friday was more of a home grown festival for our Irish families than a tourist attraction. Those local Irish Dancers are something special.

I always enjoy learning about the local groups that celebrate their own special culture. Savannah has been fortunate because of the different groups that settled here. The Jewish Festival (Shalom Y'all) get bigger every year. We also have an Asian, Italian, Greek, and an entire month to celebrate our African heritage.

I certainly hope that Tara Feis can retain it's local family atmosphere.
