Hi,

I found a great apartment on the corner of E Henry and Abercorn and a great landlord, but I don't know how safe the area is for me to live alone, as a 32 year old woman.

Can any locals give me advice about that location? I am not familiar with Savannah and don't want to feel unsafe..thanks!

That would be the corner of El Cheapo gas or the chinese rest.? Don't think that would be a problem. Short walk to park and American Legion.

You are only a few blocks from Forsythe Park, hotbed of daily activity, and a nice walk to downtown. I'd say you picked a pretty good spot. Of course, I'm sure you know to use caution alone at night? I would live there.

Does your future landlord have the same initials as DK? If so, you should DM me.

I'm thinking of the yellow house across from Savannah Tire.

It's an intersection of two busy streets.

If you plan on having a car, be sure to check to see if there is any off street parking.

There is, on E 31st street there is free parking and behind the houses, though it's in the dirt. You can literally walk to the river in 30 minutes from there.

My biggest concern is the section 8 housing directly behind the apartment...

Use the RAIDS (Regional Analysis & Information Data Sharing) Online provided by the Savannah-Chatham Metropolitan Police Department. Enter the address into the program and see which crimes in that area for the last few weeks pop up. Just the crimes preselected are enough, but be sure to (on the left) add all crime types, including attempted crimes and sexual assaults, which are not normally included, interestingly. You'll then see that, well, you can hardly see the map at all for that area. That's for about two weeks as a preselected time, but you can change that, too. RAIDS Online - Free Public Crime Mapping and Analysis

Take a look and decided for yourself.

FYI: Anyone can sign up for email reports of crimes in any area up to a five mile radius.

BTW, I wouldn't be too concerned with crime in that area since there is a precinct about 2 blocks away and I always saw police cars riding up and down Abercorn and 31st to get where they needed to go.
