Oglethorpe's use of the squares makes great use for green space and efficiency with buildings and infrastructure. (The envy of many cities around the world) It slows and spaces out traffic as well. (Not exactly the best way to get some place fast, but there aren't many traffic tie ups downtown versus stop and go traffic on Abercorn.)

Understandably, there are those people who won't desire urbanity and favor more space. It doesn't foster the most aesthetic or efficient kind of development though unfortunately. (aka strip malls and parking lots seen in any city, U.S.A.)

Gotta agree with Wandering Import. The remarkable thing about Ogelthorpe's grid plan is its a 280-year-old design that absolutely manages modern day traffic flow BEAUTIFULLY! The problem downtown is NOT flow of traffic -- it's tourists!
