I just got a letter from Ga Power stating they had "problems reading" my meter, due to bushes blocking the meter..... they are on the side of the building, nothing growing around at all!!!

We have a 4bedroom house and our electric bill this past month was $190. We usually leave the AC off during the day and at night we leave it a 78F. We air dry our clothes and try to conserve energy as much we can...

Ours was awful too. I posted in an older thread in the ATL forum. We were expecting a larger bill, but this was awful. Bumped it up to 78. Hope it helps.

Do you have an all electric home? That could be the problem.

We have a gas stove, dryer, hot water heater. The house is about 1800 sq.ft, three bedrooms, and we keep the thermostat on 74-75. Our bills for both are much lower than the ones mentioned here.

I have always heard that the all-electric home was cheaper, but I am beginning to think that it isn't!
These bills are terrible. Especially for a small apartment.

Electric water heaters consume 1/3 of all electricity used by a household on average. One of the things you can try is to lower the thermostat on your hot water tank. I do this during the summer, down here who wants to take a scalding hot shower in the summer?

I'll just add that the thermostat setting is just a guideline, not really accurate as to comfort level. We keep ours at 80-81 degrees and it is nice and comfortable. It's more about getting the humidity sucked out of the house.

Ceiling fans are a must down here as they move air and allow you to keep your AC a couple of degrees higher also.
