I currently live in Michigan and would like to move to Georgia. I was hoping for Statesboro area, possibly Georgetown. Does anyone have any information on what this area is like. Housing? Demographics? I personally am mixed (B&W) and my son is predominantly white. While I know the world has changed I know some things stay the same. As a bi-racial family, what would the area be like? I've done extensive research and I see that both area's are well diverse. But I'm just wondering if anyone else has any pointers, tips, what might be helpful around the area.
Thank you!

I think either area you mention would be fine. Statesboro is a typical college town, and Georgetown is a military-oriented suburb of the greater Savannah area. Both have general populations that would not even raise an eyebrow at biracial people. In fact, I don't think Savannah itself cares about such things to a large extent.

Statesboro will be much more economical to live in, though. One issue I've encountered in the Chatham county area is higher-than-usual rents, which is mostly a by-product of having the military base on the southside, and SCAD students downtown. From what I've been told, soldiers get a certain stipend for living off the base, and the larger apartment complexes gear their rents around that amount. SCAD students are paying a gi-normous tuition rate to go to that college, so paying entirely too much in rent doesn't make much difference to them. I lived in S'boro for over ten years and part of what kept me there after finishing grad school was the darn good rental rates. Yes, there are college students there, too, but you can find reasonable rents there because so many complexes "overbuilt". I'd also much prefer putting my kids in Bulloch schools over Chatham any day. I moved closer to my job in Savannah because as nice as S'boro is, that hour-long ride got to be a royal pain!
