Don't blame our elected officials. This decision came from the Riverfront Savannah board. What do you think?

I'm sure it takes a ton of money to put on the Savannah St Patricks Day festivities, so if a committee in charge thinks they can't afford live music, I'm sad about it, but perhaps they know what they are doing.
I have always thought that, considering the vibe in Savannah, and it's climate, and its abundance of creative people, it is surprising that there aren't more street musicians here.
I am thinking of the NY subway musicians, but I guess they are in NYC because that's where the work is.

I can see how it will be a bummer, although, I don't remember any music the times I've been there, just the parade.

As much as people complain that they're cancelling the music, there will be just as many people out drinking and having a good time. It just won't be as festive without the music.
Too bad they couldn't make the cut some place else in their budget, or do something to help raise the necessary funds. Seems a bit short sighted to me personally. Then again, I'm not on the board and don't know the variables at play..

I think one of the most legitimate complaints is coming from the music community. The bands had already been booked to play and were cancelled with only two weeks notice. Whether these bookings were on paper or just verbal, no one has said.

But if the tables were turned, and the bands backed out at the last minute, you can imagine the stink over that. Now most venues have bands and these musicians probably won't earn anything over the holiday.

Another good reason.

This could have been done with much more advance notice I'm sure. The board clearly wasn't thinking about ALL variables in their decision.

There are very few exceptions but people DON'T go to Savannah for live music. Leave that to any other fairly large town in the world/U.S.

Now, think about this: If you can stand around and listen to live music for free outside, would you go inside a bar to listen to another one? Chances are you would spend more money if there wasn't free live music outside.

But I agree, If the bands had already been hired, then, it's not a good thing to cancel at the last minute. It's sort of like breaking a promise. If they had NOT been already scheduled, then I can't see that anything has been changed.

You haven't heard of the Savannah Music Festival yet? Here's a list of what's playing. Seems this two week event has made our town a music destination. In fact there's a good chance you'd like some of it.
