I have a great job opportunity near Savannah. I have a ninth grader and a sixth grader. We would be relocating from Atlanta. I have read many posts on Savannah here and quite frankly some of them worry me greatly. It does seem that some of the same people take great pains in getting in on every thread to demolish the city. Will someone who doesn't have an axe to grind please give some real and honest commentary on this city? We are currently looking at living in The Landings on Skidaway and will be sending the kids to one of the private schools either savannah country day or savannah Christian prep. Please comment I would love to hear some rational commentary. Thank-you.

The Landings, may or may not suit you. I would guess that the majority of the people there are retired, from other areas and very, very well to do. But there are younger people with your age children. If you do decide on the Landings, make sure it's in a section where there are younger people living.

If you will be working "near" Savannah, you may want to look elsewhere in the Savannah area. Because of the rivers and marshes in the area, getting to the Landings make take more time than you like. It might add an extra 30 minutes to your commute. It's on Skidaway Island, which is quite large and the residential areas are quite spred out.

If you do decide on the Landings, I think you would prefer Savannah Country Day for school because of the location. Also....(I'm guessing here) I think that you would find that most of the other students there go to Country Day.

Thanks for your reply! Would you recommend any other neighborhoods?

Southbridge is probably more convenient to Savannah Christian. A lot of families who live there send their kids to that school. Once the Truman Parkway bridge to Abercorn is complete, Country Day won't be a bad commute from the Landings, but it will still be a long drive to Sav Christian.

Wilmington Island might suit you, depending on where you will be working. It ranges from small houses, apartments, condos, gated communities and riverfront mansions....with docks and yachts.

St. Andrews is a private school on Wilmington.

If you decide on Country Day, Coffee Bluff will give you a 5 minute drive to school, plus 10 minutes to the major retail area and once the Truman is done 15 minutes to downtown.
