Thanks for the suggestions. Any recommendations for places to stay in Hilton Head or Jekyll Island? We want something right on the ocean where we can sit on the balcony at night (and keep the window cracked at night) to hear the ocean. Also, a nice oceanfront pool and hot tubs. Also prefer something that has a nice restaurant on the premises. We do know that that the ocean will be cool at that time of year, but we do enjoy the fall at the beach. Not so hot, not so crowded. Don't really care that we can't swim at that time. Mostly just love the ocean atmosphere.

Any suggestions you can give would be most appreciated!

By the way -- how far away is Jekyll Island?

If it is a beach "resort" you want, I second Jekyll and / or St. Simons islands in Georgia (about one hour south of Savannah) or Hilton Head in SC (about 45 mins by car north). That time of the year all three should have great rates available. SSI and HHI are both very upscale, Jekyll more moderate and quiet (Jekyll is currently undergoing a complete overhaul with new convention center just opened, new shopping villages, hotels and restaurants under construction, etc).

2 quickies on vrbo. House and a condo. There are a few new hotels on the island, but I've always preferred a rental house. They're affordable, plentiful and on all sides of the island depending on what you're looking for.

November will be awesome because the sand gnats won't eat you alive.

Default which is better SSI, Jekyl or Tybee for vacation rentals?

Hi, perhaps anyone can comment on which island is more touristy...more vacation condos, chartered fishing and shopping for the diehard tourist who wants creature comforts....pool, restuarants, nice beaches..and also wants fishing places. Thanks all :-)
