I currently have a pick-up truck with NY plates that was driven down to my part-time home in Sav.The truck stays in Sav. and is insured in NY State.I travel back and forth every 3 weeks.

I now want to buy a car in Sav and NOT turn over my NY license (for Ga license/registation.)

How do I do this?

Is this car to REPLACE the truck? Or is to be in addition to the truck?

The husband guy, doesn't think you could if it is replacing the truck. He doesn't know about if it's an additional car. He suggests the tag office on Eisenhower Drive for information.

Sorry we couldn't help.

It's not replacing the truck...but I think that doesn't enter the equation.

Truck bought and registered in NY.
Now physically in Sav.
add:
Me... NY lic.
Want to buy car in Sav.
Drive car with GA plates and insurance.
Think I need to give up Ny license....which is impossible for me.

Solution: ????

Have you talked to someone at the tag office? If you're only a part-time resident one would think you could buy a car here without changing residency.

Some time back I had this conversation with Motor Vehicle(before I bought the truck in NY). She said if I bought the car in Ga. I needed to register it in Ga. In order to register you need a Ga license. So...I said I have NY lic. She said I had to surrender it.
I solved the "problem" then by buying and registering in NY and I paid someone to drive it down for me.

I'll go to the tag office next week and review the details with them again before I lose the opportunity to buy this car.

BTW: If the situation is a no go I'm thinking of plan "B"

Buy the car and bring the title to NY. Register the car and bring plates to Sav.

One problem...big problem. In order to register the car you need an inspection for NY State. Have not figured out how to do this because the inspections are tightly controlled by computer generated forms at the gas stations that perform the inspections.

I'm going to speak to the gas station today and pick his brain for a solution.
