Hey guys,
I had a look through the forums but couldn't find an answer to my question, so I thought i would ask in a thread (sorry if i'm just being blind). I'm visiting Savannah in early August, and just wondering if there are any hostels or cheap hotels/ Bnb's to stay in Savannah. My price is up to $50 per night, either within the Historic District or within easy walking or public transport distance to this area. I'm looking to stay for around 3 nights. Any suggestions would be appreciated!! I have exhausted Google, and found a few places, but if any locals (or people who have visited) know of anywhere that would be fantastic! Thanks so much

What is the Thunderbird charging these days? Have you checked the youth hostel? There's also couch surfing, if you're up for that.

Does the YMCA or the YWCA still have overnight rooms?

I'm looking at the Savannah Suites which is on West Montgomery Cross Road. Is bus access easy to and from the Historic District from there? Never been to Savannah before, so just wanting to get an idea of area and places in relation to other places etc

You should be able to catch the bus quite easily from there to get downtown. It will take about a half an hour or so. Be careful at the downtown bus stops, there are often con men and bums waiting there too. It's more annoying than dangerous. Just avoid interacting with men who act too friendly. The old women are usually interesting, though.

The Savannah Suites is a typical "extended stay" working mans kinda place, but not bad and in a good area. Plenty of restaurants within walking distance and a Starbucks right across the street. My friend works at the LaQuinta Hotel right next door and he takes the bus from there downtown all the time, so it's very doable.

At $50 a night, that's probably the best you're going to find in Savannah ... or anywhere!

PS -- I think it's kinda neat that there's a chain of budget motels in the country called "Savannah Suites." Just sayin' ...

I don't know about any of the others, but the one in downtown Atlanta should probably be avoided at all costs. Hopefully it's the exception in the chain.

You'll enjoy it. The bus ride is easy. I stayed at that LaQuinta for work one time when my per diem was 71 bucks a day for a hotel (which will normally not get you anywhere near the historic district) and I had a good time. The hotel is fine for a budget place and the location is near some restaurants, etc if you need that before you go into town or when you come back. Enjoy!
