Going to the outlet Mall in Pooler tomorrow, but will be coming downtown to eat. I'm looking for a good seafood place I've never been to and I saw Cotton Exchange Tavern? Are they good? Are there better choices?

I have not been there, but it sounds good, and it got good marks on Tripadvisor. I don't know where you are coming from, but it is surprising to me that Savannah doesn't really have much fresh fish, besides shrimp and oysters. The cotton Exchange is in a good location, and I'm sure you will find something you like.
If you are specifically after crab bakes, I would recommend The Distillery, also downtown.

I'd drive a little further out to Tybee where you can actually be served fish/shrimp/crab that were caught the same day. Bubba Gumbo's, Crab Shack, CoCo's Sunset Grill, North Beach Bar and Grill. You can't miss.

Ooooh, I forgot Tubby's in Thunderbolt and Larry's (B'fast and lunch only) at 3000 Skidaway Road. Larry's is good home cookin'.

I'd like to add AJ's Dockside to that Tybee restaurant list. Best on the island!

I saw something interesting ( at least to me) this week at a fancy schmansky restaurant. The item was "hand breaded calamari" ( $12). Now, I need to ask since I am 100 % Italian, and have breaded my calamari, eggplant, meatballs, vegetables, and even my flip flops , what would compel a restaurant ( here in Savannah) to present such a obsentatious description of a dish that was created for poor people?

My God....what machine was previously used to bread calamari before these geniuses decided we will promote our calamari like artisanal bread, single malt whisky, and first press olive oil.

Want to guess the restaurant?? Not easy.

Couldn't be any worse than its predecessor, then.

I'm assuming -- and only assuming -- that by "hand breaded" they mean the squid arrived at the restaurant fresh, was cut up, seasoned, breaded and fried, rather then arriving already pre-coated? But this is only an asumption.

I'm reminded of my 2nd (and last) ill-fated dining experience at the now infamous Savannah Oyster House on WI when I was informed that they were "out of grilled scallops" and only had "breaded ones."

That's a good take on the situation. Don't know. Happen at the Westin on Hutch while playing golf at their club. Restaurant is in the hotel where I only read the menu but didn't eat there.
