If you are looking for a small town with a population under 3,000 and near Savannah, Georgia and Statesboro, Georgia, then Pembroke is the town for you. Approximately 5 years ago, I sold my home on Wilmington Island and looked everywhere for a home in the "country." I settled on the one-light town of Pembroke and built a home in a small subdivision that consisted of 15 1-acre lots. It is in the City but with a country atmosphere. Where else can you grocery shop, eat lunch, and return home in less than an hour. The commute to work in Savannah is 36 miles one way. Statesboro, Georgia (home of Georgia Southern University) is 20 miles away. Bryan County schools are the best in the area.

I have moved from Mass. to Pembroke. I moved here in July. I grew up in the Northeast, not to far from Boston but after living here I would never go back there. Everyone in the town is so friendly. Everyone that I have seen in GA whether it be Statesboro,Claxton or here is unbelievable. People in the Northeast have no idea what they are missing.I love it here. And you are right its a small town and you can walk to everything. Its great.

I'm quite surprised to hear such great comments about Pembroke. I work on base and have driven thru it many times over the past couple of years only to get somewhere like I-16 or down Hwy 280. Ive driven in the town a little but never saw areas that met what I hope to find (at least 10 acres that is real affordable, and a feeling that your really away from it all). Are there parts of pembroke that you two have seen that are wooded, private, quiet and the land is relatively inexpensive (2-3K/acre)? I do know it has Bryan County Schools.
