Hello all!
I'm doing some late-night research on Whitaker St. and am not finding much information. Do any of ya'll have any info/suggestions? I'm sure there's probably a fitting Savannah, Ga history book out there with at least a jumping off place...thanx in advance for your consideration.

Cheers!

If you are in Savannah, go to the Georgia Historical Society or even the Bull Street public library, which has a special collection relating to the history of city.

You also need to be more specific when you ask questions on a public forum or to a real life librarian. What do you want to know about Whitaker St?

Rule One: Don't do your late-night research about Whitaker Street, on Whitaker Street late at night. Your project will end abruptly, if you catch my drift.

Oh, I don't know; Sweet Melissa's at the corner of Whitaker and Congress is the perfect place to do "research" at 4 a.m. Lots of color, lots of characters, lots of strange but true Savannah stories.

As for the history of Whitaker, all I can say for certain is that it is one of the original Savannah streets laid out by Oglethrope. Whether it was called Whitaker from the get-go I don't know.
