Was told by an enployee of Dillard's on Sunday that the company will build a new freestanding store in Pooler and leave Savannah Mall in 2014 -- spelling certain final death for the Southside shopping center. What's more, they said Dillard's will be an anchor in a new outdoor "town village" lifestyle center. Where and when they could not say.

All this sounds very familiar -- was it proposed once before and fell through? Same concept revived or something new? And it's nothing to do with the other luxury outlet mall project already underway.

Dillard's moving to Pooler is not a surprise; that employees are telling customers this and it's not been announced publicly is.

I'm betting Ellie or Gentlearts will know about this?

I have not heard anything, but I hope it's true. I have been to several town village concept shopping areas, such as Legacy Village Home, and they are really nice.
Sad for Savannah Mall, but it's pathetic.

I don't know. I'd take a wait and see approach.

Is the population density great enough to support Dillard's out there? Do they have one on HHI? I might shop there once a year in its current location. I'm not sure moving will attract more customers if they don't have a strong draw in town.

Dillards should at LEAST wait until Truman finishes this summer to see if more traffic will bring more customers there.

It's not that people won't go there. I even go there from Pooler, since I like it as much as Macy's. I would go there more often if it was closer, but my point is that Dillards probably wants to be a part of something vibrant instead of a dead, lonely excuse for a mall.
