I thought it fascinating that google automatically accounts for the heavy traffic on Abercorn. How do they do that? I didn't request a time of day or anything, just a route. At 3 am I don't think it would make a difference.

Maybe Google accounts for traffic lights and adds time accordingly?

I've seen traffic backed up all the way to Savannah Mall headed west towards the parkway. You could probably waste 15 minutes sitting there waiting to get across the bridge. Technically, there may only be one, maybe two lights, between the mall and Bay St, if you don't mind landing far west of downtown.

Yeah, an hour walk starting from Bay Street heading south will probably put you somewhere in the Thomas Square neighborhood. Vicinity of Henry & Anderson.

Anyway, I am also baffled at this question. Someone from Atlanta should absolutely know better!

Maybe the one hour takes into consideration the ten minutes you walk before getting knocked in the head, the twenty minute wait for EMS, the twenty minutes to get to St. Joseph's, and ten minutes it takes for St. Joe's to put a Band-Aid on your head and toss you out onto Abercorn.

Naw ... it would be at least 3 hours before St. Joes ER would get around to putting a band-aid on your head. It took Candler ER that long to see my broken arm ...

By then I could have walked as far south as ... O-Mall? Maybe?

No, because the buses never arrive on time. Still, the more massive the head injury, the more you lose track of time anyway.

Google aggregates information from tracking smart mobile devices (mostly Android phones, but also tablets running Android). They have real-time updates feeding data from multiple sources at all times. I don't think they divulge how many devices are required to get a fix, but it's probably not that many. You can opt out of sharing data, but most people who own these devices don't do that.
