I doubt the snow shovel will be needed, but I would go out and buy some ice melt.
Wish I could be in my hometown for this one. Savannah in snow is so pretty!
Some snow might fall early Wednesday morning, but this storm is looking to be mostly freezing rain.

Due to the severe winter weather conditions expected to impact our area, all Savannah-Chatham Public Schools will operate on a ninety-minute early dismissal for students on Tuesday, January 28, 2014.
Additionally, there will be no school for students and staff on January 29th. All schools and administrative offices in Savannah-Chatham County will be closed in anticipation of the hazardous weather conditions on Wednesday, January 29, 2014.
All after school programs remain cancelled for Tuesday, January 28, and will also be cancelled on Wednesday, January 29, 2014.
The school district continues to monitor the weather situation very closely. Updates will be provided should additional disruptions to the operational schedule occur. Freezing rain

The weather might be severe but those restrictions are a little over the top. IMHO.

Yes, those restrictions do seem a bit much, but the problem of the school buses and all of us that don't know how to drive in even a little ice, is a big one. It's the old "better be safe than sorry" thing.

Does the city get a portion of the school budget paid by the state...and will the students need to make up the school days lost for that reason?

I wouldn't swear to this, but I think days like this (Snow Days) are made up by making the winter and spring break shorter.

I predict it will not snow in Effingham or Chatham counties. I hope I am wrong.

It's 40 degrees and dry as a bone. The weather channel just told everyone to go home.

The forecast is showing a 60% chance of snow showers tomorrow morning for Statesboro. I'll believe it when I see it.

Yeah, I think it was a bit premature. I'm currently sitting at 35F with light rain ATM. Tonight we shall know whether or not this storm is a bust.

On a side note, Atlanta sure got a shock. The forecasters weren't initially thinking a lot of snow would fall there.

So, I drove home at about 5:30. It was raining, and my car thermometer said it was 34 degrees. Made it home alive. Isn't it nice the news folks have something to talk about?
