Only one I could see leaving is K-Mart, but I think they do pretty good business given the state they're in.

Although, that would be an excellent place for Target to go in.

Hope not, because I feel a sentimental attachment to ol' KMart. I remember when it was in that location across from the college (when it was just a college), and a friend of mine worked at "the new one" (which by now is far from "new") part-time for years and years. I would hate to see it go, especially since they've stood their ground against Wal-Mart for so long. Of course, you are right that if KMart were to leave the market, Target would probably be more inclined to move in, since there is a demonstrated need/demand in the market for a big-box alternative to Wally World.

Kmart is an interesting story. There's one left in Savannah, and they appear to do pretty well. There's also one still thriving in Peachtree City, of all places, and I swear that's the nicest Kmart you'll ever walk into. It's like a Target.

I didn't figure that this needed it's own thread, so I'll post it here.

Finally, Statesboro is getting a second Zaxby's. It won't be around the Mall area, but just down the road from the current store on Chandler Road.

Quote:
In preparation for their 25th anniversary, Zach and Tony are coming home so to speak. They have acquired property at the corner of Georgia Avenue and Chandler Road, just a few hundred yards on the other side of Henry's barber shop from where it all began, to build a second Zaxby's in the Boro.
Inside Bulloch Business with DeWayne Grice - Zaxby's opening second location in the Boro

A parking lot there never made sense. I hope this one is built to the sidewalks and without a drive-thru. Put emphasis on walkability.

I remember when it was just "Zax" and they had to change the name due to copyright issues. I know some used the name "Zax's" (which was even odder) but to me, that was 'Zax' right across from Dingus. Or is it Dingus's? Oh, heck.

My vague post a few days ago is referring to a significant new business coming to Statesboro as well as almost every other decent sized city from Tampa to Louisville in the coming months. I am under a non-disclosure, so I will say that you should expect some disappointment and possibly even anger from some folks . Cities all over the South are under a gag-order.
