I went a few days after it opened and wasn't really impressed with it. I mean, I loved the expanded food section, deli, soup and salad bar, and sushi, but I could do without the clothing/furniture/jewelry.

That and the building is so ugly. It's just a giant brick block.

Oh, I totally agree. It's really just a gimmick and no more special than most large Kroger stores. The one at Berwick is much nicer, IMO. And the building is incredibly ugly. Horrible in fact. I can't believe the city let them build something (or that Kroger built something) so uninspiring.

But I still think the concept would work well in Statesboro. With so many GSU students coming from Metro Atlanta, where Kroger is king, it would have immediate brand loyalty.

I freaking hope so!! I remember when Target came to Ogeechee Tech to do a recruiting session - they told the attendees that it would be opening in 2009.......... But Kroger would destroy Walmart in Statesboro. Somewhat higher quality, similar prices/great sales, much better quality produce (bar is not set very high if set at all) - BILO's ridiculous prices that make Publix look like a bargain would have a run for their money.

They would need to put it on 301 Ideally near the bypass that way it could cater to GSU and the Country Club. Once the country club has its own commercial anchor, the surrounding area will explode as the new preferred shopping area. I really dont know why the major intersections between GSU and Country Club havent developed... its the perfect mix of customers.

There was a shopping center, anchored by a grocery store, planned for the corner of 301 and the bypass a few years ago; I saw plans on the developer's site (whoever it was). I want to say it was around 2009-2010 I saw it.

I travel 301 almost daily and it has more than just college students. You have tractor-trailers, people from Candler, Evans, Tattnall, and Toombs county, plus those that travel from 16.
