Savannah recently was ranked No. 1 in the top 10 destinations in the U.S. with the highest percentage of homes wish listed, and No. 3 in the top 10 destinations globally with the highest percentage of homes wish listed, by Airbnb, a popular community marketplace for people to list and book unique accommodations around the world.

“Savannah and Tybee Island are enjoying exponential growth in terms of new inventory of short-term and vacation rentals and for good reason. This news from Airbnb shows that travelers interested in those types of accommodations or lodging products put Savannah at the very top of their wish lists,” said Joseph Marinelli, Visit Savannah president.

Airbnb.com analyzed millions of guest wish lists housed on the site since the feature was launched in 2012 to generate the results. The company says that “wish lists are aspirational and indicate where a traveler would go if they had all the time and money they could want.”

According to Airbnb, “in the U.S., Savannah, Ga., is at the top of many people’s dream destinations. With its antebellum architecture and beautiful parks, Savannah is a great getaway.”

Because it's emblematic of the South.

Haha. We watch all the neighbors rip it down, but we keep ours. What's the harm? The Spanish moss is one of the things that reminds us that we aren't in Ohio anymore.

LEMME GUESS -- They rip it down because they think it's killing the trees right?

Oh, who knows. They're natives, so you'd think they would know better.

DID YOU KNOW? There's no Spanish Moss in Johnson Square and nobody knows why. The tour guides says it's because Nathaneal Greene hated the stuff and that's where his monument is.

I had heard that, but I thought it was probably because of the way the wind blows, or something. In my yard, we get it on the street side, but not on any other sides of the house.

Spanish moss doesn't seem to like it too close to the ocean, either. I know that once you crossed Bloody Marsh and entered the beach neighborhoods, you hardly saw any moss. I had a large Live Oak in my front yard on East Beach with no moss on it whatsoever. It may well be that it doesn't like the ocean breezes or the salt air.
