I'm trying to help out a friend that lives in Garden City with wife and 2 small children. The children are very bright, computer savy and are multi-lingual. They are in lower school, one in 3rd grade and the other about to enter school for the first time in Sept.

What are their options for "good schooling"? ie: Busing, religious school or ??

I am clueless as to where to begin my research and hope someone might help me out on this one.

TIA

Specialty Programs offered by Savannah-Chatham County Public Schools.

Oglethorpe Charter School

These schools are open to all Chatham County residents wherever they live, bus transportation too

If they're seriously considering private schools and can afford it, I don't think you can do better than Savannah Christian (for the price, anyway).

Nope, they cannot afford it. The only way I found their children could afford a "private" school would be thru aid programs offered by the Catholic school system.

Any school, no matter how good, may manage to have a couple of bad teachers. That's when Mom and Dad have to step in and enrich the learning experience for the children. Leaving the learning up to the school, excellent or terrible, is not a thing to do. Not only that, but sometimes, the kids just don't like a teacher, and fail to do their best work.

One of our boys had a sixth grade teacher that actually apologized to giving my son so much extra work. The reason??? We had better reference books than the school library. He would look up information and take it back for the class. The school was considered OK. I hate to think what a bad one would offer.

It's going to depend on the school district, where they live, etc. They need to go to school with the same children that they play with. It's hard to measure what the support from their friends means. AND then, the parentts enrich the learning experience as best they can. Good Luck to them! School life can often be difficult.
