What do you want out of your neighborhood?

What are your handy man skills?

Do you want to live in a active neighborhood close to downtown? or a suburban neighborhood with a pool/clubhouse...

@Newsboy. Any "Best County Schools in Georgia" ranking must be taken with a grain of salt (or several 10-pound bags of the stuff). Georgia's urbanized counties, such as Savannah-Chatham and even Athens-Clarke, have severe pockets of poverty, undocumented immigrants, and a host of other special conditions that would affect their ranking on any county list. Chatham County's 278,000 people are diverse in ways bad and good, and any "average" of test scores, college-bound students, would have to be lower in Chatham County. Effingham and Bryan are white, middle-class counties. Moreover, Savannah-Chatham has an abundance of K-12 private schools (far more than most cities its size, thanks to the legacy of busing in the 1970s and 1980s), and a disproportionate number of middle-class and upper-middle-class kids in Savannah go to private schools.

Effingham and Bryan Counties are ex-urban Georgia counties with mediocre educational standards in a mediocre state. The best of the public schools in Savannah-Chatham are still better than those in surrounding ex-urban counties. I listed the ones that I refer to: the elite public schools with a special entrance exam, plus those special schools for careers, sciences, technology, etc.. If your child can get into one of those schools, they are better and more rigorous than the schools in Effingham and Bryan.

pink caddy,

Thank you for taking the time to read all my posts. I am really preparing for a new phase of my life in which I can, for the first time, have more freedom to pick where I will live.

I like the culture of Texas in general: many people are friendly and down-to-earth. I also admire the different (and may be richer) culture on the East Coast. That is mainly why I am investigating different places. I can never resist a bowl of good gumbo either!

I want to be in a safe neighborhood in which I can go out to take a walk without fear, for example, early in the morning and after dinner (before it gets dark). I do not have handy man skills. Therefore, if I end up buying a fixer upper, I will need to hire the professionals to fix it before moving in. I want a low-maintenance place. I prefer a suburban neighborhood. Do you have a zip code that I can begin to take a look at?

I live on WI and it has everything you're looking for. Good schools, very walkable neighborhoods, range of housing options, etc.

When you mean walk able are you talking about being able to walk to stores, restaurants, bars? or just walk to exercise?

Also Condo or house?

WI sounds like the real deal. Now for the downside. What are the downside aspects of living on WI?
