The most important part of the article for me was this...
Quote:
Another thing Blais hopes to improve is the ease with which business people are able to travel back and forth between Savannah and Canada.

“I’m going to look into bringing a Canadian airline — whether it’s Porter or WestJet — here,” she said. “We need that.”

After all, Canada is Georgia’s largest export market, Blais said, adding that Georgia sells more goods to Canada than to the state’s next two largest foreign markets combined.

Bilateral trade between Georgia and Canada totaled $10.4 billion in 2014, with Georgia exports to Canada slightly higher than Canadian exports to Georgia.

“To put that in perspective, my last posting was to France, which, as you can imagine, is a very strong trading partner,” Blais said. “Our bilateral trade with France is approximately $8 billion a year – more than $2 billion lower than our trade with Georgia alone.”

A quick scan of the Internet shows that Georgia exports to Canada are a wide range of both agricultural products and manufactured goods such as aircraft parts and medical equipment, as well as raw materials such as cotton and corn.

Canadian exports to Georgia are lumber, potash, coal and iron ore, as well as newsprint, automobiles, computer mainframes, recreational vehicles and motorcycles.

And people going to the beach. Welcome and Bienvenue. Direct flights wow that would great, and put the International in the airport. Would be great to see Montreal make it. I think we would see a good bit of tourism flights between the two cities, just think, they would love it here for winter, and it would be nice to visit MTL for summer. Plus business flights if we get more in to creative and information technology sectors in Savannah. Vancouver would be great, too. Those are two cool cities. Realistically though I imagine Toronto would be first as it is the biggest. Have not been to Toronto yet but it is on the list to visit!

Thanks for the welcome.

Back in the early 2000's I was contracted to an expedite freight company here in Toronto, and we had weekly runs to your city, to Gulf Stream, bringing down rebuilt landing gear legs that had been overhauled up here. Arrive on a Wednesday, stay over night, and head back with more units to be rebuilt. Did that for about two years.

The flying time from Toronto would be about two hours. I think that Porter Air would be interested in that route, as they all ready fly to Atlanta, and Miami, and Myrtle Beach. Their Toronto terminal is beside the harbour, a 10 minute bus ride to the city core, and financial district. They fly quiet turbo props, not jets.

Major manufacturers in Savannah sell a lot of product in Canada - JCB and Great Dane Trailers, for instance, have strong dealer networks in that country. And yes, Toronto is a great city! I'd love to be able to fly direct, and that airport looks to be a lot more convenient than YYZ.

I don't think Savannah's winters are for the Canadians. One hour and 30 minutes additional flying time and they are in the Dominican Republic with winter temps a constant 82 degrees. The DR (especially in the northern part) is a favorite location for them.

Coastal GA Guy .

Yes, being able to land within sight of the downtown towers is a big advantage over YYZ, which is about 20 miles away, in the city of Mississauaga. Toronto has a land area of 250 square miles, and it is surrounded by five other cities. Being located on the shore of Lake Ontario, we have a natural harbour, which sees international shipping arrivals for 10 months of the year. The St Lawrence Seaway allows ocean going ships to navigate right into the centre of the continent, up to the head of Lake Superior, at Duluth, Minnesota.

Toronto is the financial hub of Canada and all seven of the national banks have their head offices in Toronto, as do about 60 percent of the major corporations. About a third of the 35 million people who live in Canada, make their homes in southern Ontario within a 300 mile radius of Toronto.

The Province of Ontario is a huge place about one and a half times the square mile area of Texas. Population is about 13 million people, and we have a wide range of geography types. Rolling farm land in the southwest, large cities in the central area, and vast stretches of lakes and forests in the north.

Porter also has just started flying into Charleston as well .... a welcome addition since Charleston has quite a few part time Canadian residents and tourists. No more Boston/New York connections... yeah
