I hope Statesboro wins...
Quote:
Statesboro was among the 50 communities selected from a pool of over 135 community applicants to advance to the second phase of the contest.

Sponsored by Frontier Communications, DISH, CoBank and The Weather Channel, the three-year competition was launched to catalyze economic revitalization in small towns and cities.

“As the largest telecommunications company focused on rural America, we recognized the need for and the economic impact of new, strategic investments on the revitalization of small towns and communities across rural America,” Frontier Communications Executive Chairman Maggie Wilderotter said.

As a quarterfinalist, Statesboro will be awarded $50,000 to implement strategies to strengthen its economy and improve quality of life.

For the competition, Statesboro proposed a streetscape improvement plan that include new crosswalks, signage and greenery, among other items.

In the next six months, Statesboro will further develop its Community Revitalization Plan and compete for additional funding.

Statesboro will also be assigned a corporate partner that will provide strategic guidance throughout this phase of the competition.

If Statesboro is selected as a semifinalist in early 2016, the city will receive an additional $100,000.

America’s Best Communities will announce the finalists in April 2017. The winning communities will win up to $3 million.
Statesboro advances in America

That's great to hear!

I checked the map, and apparently, there are a ton of selections in Indiana and Ohio, which seems kind of odd. Statesboro was one of only 3 chosen in the southeast (the other 2 were Georgetown, SC and Macon County, NC).

None in Texas, none in Florida, and only 1 in California seem surprising as well.

Not too many news organization are neutral, present liberal/conservative in same light, or agree on how one should put butter and jam on their toast. It's just, that's the way it is. They call it "spin".

...Isn't that the point of a small-town local newspaper? Seriously, what else are they supposed to report on?
