Hi, my hubby and I are relocating to the Savannah area in id Sept / Oct 1st for a 2 yr project at Elba Island. We're hoping to find a cute little beach cottage near a beach ( the dream ) but reality is that we will be just as happy to get a small appt or home in the city. It needs to be furnished and in a safe area. What areas, including the island ones, in the Savannah area are the "good ones" as far as safety and access to Elba Island goes? Thanks

Budget is going to determine a lot of what you want. Tybee is the beach area and is about a 30 minute drive from Elba.

Welcome to Savannah! I was born and raised here (I left and came back after college) and my boyfriend is a technical analyst at Elba Island/KMI. You might like Wilmington, Talahi or Whitemarsh. It's not the beach, but the summer traffic on and off highway 80 to Tybee is brutal. One accident is all it takes to shut it down. Also, the full moon/spring tide can restrict your access. Even though these are seasonal, they are definitely things to think about.

Wow, that's something to think about! Lol. We've been looking into some off season Tybee rentals for the first 6 months, and some are very pricey.

It's been difficult finding anything furnished in areas other than in the Tybee or the Midtown / downtown area. It's also difficult to find anything this far out arrival wise.

But thanks so much for the suggestions. I think we're going to have to forget the furnished part, and lock down for the long haul. Lol.

I've never been to the Savannah area, but from what I've seen online, it's absolutely gorgeous. Can't wait to get there.

Not sure if it is in your area of interest but check Addison Place apartments in Pooler to see if they have any furnished rentals. They do some leasing with Gulfstream and may have some short term (6 months) units that are available. Newer complex and some units over 1800 sq. ft. It is further out but if you get in a bind they may work. Welcome and hope you enjoy your time here!

There are several out there that will do 2 month minimum. Almost was stuck there 7 years ago.
